Maine's Recall of Tainted Recreational Marijuana

FAIRFIELD (WGME) -- The Maine Office of Cannabis Policy has announced the state’s inaugural health and safety recall.

The recall was implemented because of health and safety issues in cannabis products across the state.

Eight cannabis stores in Maine have recalled multiple products due to mold and yeast audit testing.

Three types of cannabis flower and pre-rolls from Cannabis Cured were recalled due to the health risks associated with inhaling mold.

“We detected some irregularities, initiated an investigation, and ultimately discovered that certain products had reached the market despite efforts by OCP to prevent this,” stated Hudak.

John Lorenz, the proprietor of a store impacted by the recall, expressed gratitude for the state's tracking system, which enabled the prompt removal of the contaminated items from the shelves.

“Products can be traced back from the retailer to the laboratory, production facility, cultivation site, and the original seed or plant, where contamination may have originated,” explained Lorenz.

The remaining recalled product was found at Cannabis Cured stores from as far east as Bangor, as far north as Stratton and all the way to Eliot.

The cannabis was out for sale August 27-September 9.

The Cannabis Cured company put out a statement Wednesday.

"All the recently recalled products had a certificate of analysis showing that the standards had been met, during a subsequent audit test conducted by the state, a portion did not.”

Hudak says this is the first time since adult use cannabis became legal in Maine that there has been a recall.

If you have the recalled cannabis, you can exchange or return it.
